BAD TRIP

Description

This design started as a Rat style distortion but with the goal of more gain, loads more output, thick to tight low end, and of course it needed a clean blend for those of us who prefer that for gain stacking and the bassist out there. Drop the gain to zero, turn up the tight control, and use it as a boost or do just the opposite for massive doom.

Power Specifications

9-18VDC - CENTER NEGATIVE While 9V is perfectly adequate for gnarly grind, feel free to use 18V for additional headroom.

TRUE BYPASS Soft click (1.1KGf) mechanical 3PDT.

Controls

Name Location Description

Gain External Controls the amount of distortion

Level External Controls the output volume.

Blend External Adjust the mix between your buffered clean signal and the distortion.

Cut Roll off some high end to smooth things out to taste.

Tight Pregain high pass filter to low shelf the amount of bottom end.

Clip Internal Adjust the hard clipping threshold.

Full CW is default rat-style silicon diodes.

Bypass LED Brightness Internal Adjust overall brightness of front LED.

Default setting at minimum (full CCW).

Boost Internal Additional opamp gain stage after hard clipping.

Clean Internal Gain stage for the dry side of the Blend control.

Response Internal Adjust the contour of the main gain stage. Ruetz-style mod.
